Hip Hop is stereotyped in India!

Pants saggin below waste, Ts length up to the knees (XX/XXL), Head Gear (caps, du-rags, bandanna), Shades/Glasses when it is not sunny are some of the most common stereotypical categories attire-wise. I don't give a _ _ _ _ attitude is a must to follow the culture. This attitude transcends from influential artists such as the legend 2PAC SHAKUR also one of the top aggressive rap rebel Eminem and various other artists who have been impounded for their thuggish acts . The society yet does not accept this culture but the changes are evident by devotees of hip hop who have developed the right positive attitude and entered into various forms (elements - emceeing, Dj’ying, bboyin, graffiti paintings) of hip-hop for spreading the culture. It is a challenge to up the middle finger to the society at the same time expect a change for people to follow this culture. Hip Hop is a way of life whereas the elements of hip hop are its art forms, possessing the art can add to the advantage but spreading the culture is what it takes to make and build a community to an empire. Hip Hop in India is at growth stage yet speak about 2PAC to a common man and he will ask who is he? Its disheartening to hear such a reply. People wearin Ts of such artists might also have the same reply!

The bright side behind this stereotype is as good as not all blonde’s are dumb so also Hip Hop can be put forth in dominance towards the acceptance of both the art forms and the culture as a whole when people can connect to it. Ghetto is the place where hip hop has begun and so it is most important for it to begin at Street-level with every lay man acknowledging what hip hop is! For this rap may be delivered in local (hindi) language, appropriate junction between west and east mix and get the perfect blend in music, graffiti could be done in local languages. Bring in the movement, spread the culture. PEACE

  1. Most of d rappers in India fail 2 understand Hip Hop as a culture n just take it as a stereotype (baggy pants, baseball hats, etc)as my dawg Ian has mentioned above... If they'd take a lil more time 2 understand d major things (street religion, retaliation 2 lyrics, etc) they'd understand d culture as a whole...
